Forgiveness

“We only make peace with our enemies, My Lord. That’s why it’s called making peace.”
– Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish, Game of Thrones

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find it incredibly hard to make peace. I’m pretty good at holding a grudge. It’s illogical, I know — holding onto anger generally does me more harm than it does anyone else. But there it is. Despite my best judgment, sometimes anger gets the best of me.

When I’m able to make peace, to forgive, it often happens when I’m not even aware. One day I just realize that I’ve let go of the hurt and anger, and forgiveness just sneaks up on me. I really want to get better at intentionally letting go and finding that peace.

This month, Desmond Tutu is doing a 30-day Forgiveness Challenge as part of a new initiative called HumanJourney. You can read more about it at forgivenesschallenge.com and in the WordPress.com News announcement post. (That’s how I heard about it — WordPress.com is one of the partners for the challenge.)

I already signed up — I know this is something I’d like to get better at, and every day as part of the challenge I’ll get an email to guide and encourage me toward forgiveness. Will you join me?
